Amoth who spoke in Kakamega County said that the home-based care for asymptomatic COVID-19 cases is nine-times cheaper.

He said the home environment has shown to be a catalyst for quick recovery.

Dr Amoth said the country has made great progress in dealing with COVID-19 noting that from having to send the first COVID-19 samples to South Africa to having 33 testing laboratories across the country it has been a great effort.

He noted that access to reagents is the biggest challenge to approving more testing labs adding that Kenya is among the top countries in Africa that have tested the most people with a per capita testing of six per 100 populations.

On his part, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the Ministry of Health is engaging elders in the communities that want to go ahead with initiation ceremonies including circumcision.

He noted that while the government will not stop the ceremonies going ahead, those engaged in the ceremonies will be required to adhere to the Ministry of Health guidelines in order to ensure that the initiates are not put to the danger of contracting COVID-19.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who had accompanied Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe to Kakamega urged county governments to invest more in healthcare since health is one of the devolved functions.
