A 43-year-old man is in police custody for the alleged murder of a man he found with his ‘missing’ teenage daughter on Sunday, November 25.
John Odhiambo Juma is said to have beaten 24-year-old Benson Onyango to death when he found him with his 16-year-old daughter at Sika beach in Bondo sub-county, Siaya County.
The primary school pupil had reportedly been missing for a day, prompting the father to launch a search.
The minor had gone missing on Saturday, November 24, and was – on Sunday –, found in Onyango’s house, which is located a few meters from Juma’s home.
Mageta location chief Ambrose Ogema said the father received information that the girl was in Onyango’s house from the girl’s step-sister. He proceeded to the deceased’s house and indeed found the two together leading to a physical altercation.
The area chief said Onyango fell unconscious and died moments after the beating from the angry father.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene after realising what he had done but he was arrested by irate members of the public who handed him over to the police.
The deceased’s body was transferred to Bondo sub-county Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem as investigations continue.
The suspect is being held at Mageta Police Station.
