The County Government of Homa-Bay has been challenged to renovate and equip the existing Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) with modern equipment for training students who do not qualify for university entry.

KUPPET Secretary General, Akello Misori said that many of the existing vocational training institutions in the county lack capacity to offer quality training to students due to neglect by the county government.

Akello appealed to the County administration to strengthen such centres so that they can provide vocational skills to young people in order to allow them to create self-employment and generate a source of income.

He also laid blame on the County Government for misdirecting the resources that should be used to strengthen and equip those institutions to other areas due to misplaced priority of failing to empower the youth to reduce cases of unemployment.

On the other hand, Akello raised concern over poor status of the Early Years Education Centers (ECD) in the county, which had not been improved despite being the mandate of the County Government.
