Police have cautioned members of the public to be wary of three suspects whom they say masterminds daylight muggings within the CBD and robbery of clients who have just withdrawn money from their banks.

One of the suspects, Godfrey Sangare Ambani, who is said to be the gang leader, was at one time arrested by our officers on 19th October after being captured on CCTV robbing a man shortly after he had stepped out of a bank, but he was released on cash bail.

“For the entire period he was in custody, not a single mugging incident was reported in town only for the muggings to resume after he was released and spotted in the streets. We call upon members of the public to immediately alert the Police should they spot him or get robbed on the streets,” the National Police Service said on Twitter.

The other suspects were identified as John Mikia Kamau and Duncan Ndegwa Githingi. They will face robbery with violence charges.

At the same time, members of public have been warned that a team of racketeers that had left the Nairobi Central Business District following the arrest of their leader one, John Ng’ethe Mwaura, who was charged with assaulting a Police Officer and maliciously damaging his property is back.

John Ng’ethe Mwaura.

According to police, Mwaura, who also identifies himself as an overseer of the Christ Love International Ministry, is a con who together with his accomplices robs unsuspecting members of the public in the pretext of selling them coupons with redeemable prizes.

The racketeers were on Wednesday sighted in town along Moi Avenue preying on unsuspecting Kenyans. Before his arrest earlier this year, the team was using a motor vehicle reg no KBY 546M but police say fresh information indicates that they are using a different one this time round – a Station Wagon reg. no KBL 247X. They use the vehicle to lure victims to buy tickets and redeem prizes that are non existent.
