Real-estate professionals are pushing for a national symposium to outline tasks reserved for private sector in the government-fronted affordable housing scheme.

Kenya Realtors Professionals Association (KPRL) at the end of a two-day national convention said involvement of construction material suppliers and local built-environment experts will see a home-grown sustainable solution created to facilitate future delivery of low-cost housing.

“The government should provide land for construction as well as facilitate development of social amenities,” said KPRL executive director Peter Wairegi.

The county governments, he added, also have a role to play by fast-tracking formulation of spatial plans to guide the project implementation across the country in a sustainable manner.

Most crucially, Mr Wairegi said the State should provide fair credit to facilitate Kenyans to own the houses under a tenant purchase scheme.
