Drivers of ride-hailing digital taxis are pushing the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to cap operators commissions at 5%.
In a raft of proposals submitted to the Senate, the drivers, through the Digital Taxi Forum (DTF), want the following also implemented:
Turnover tax retained at 3%
Parking fees and business permits paid to City Hall capped at 2%
Vehicles be allowed to operate “as long as they have road worthiness certificates from the NTSA, regardless of the vehicle age
Drivers be allowed to join trade unions
Allowed to pay a one-time fee of KSh500 for the digital hauling badge, as opposed to the current KSh3,500 fee, subject to annual renewal charges of KSh1,000
All cars be fitted with security cameras to help them record incidents during trips
