Two dead, 16 nursing injuries in Kilifi accidents – KBC





Two people are dead while 16 others are nursing injuries in two separate accidents that occurred at Shauri Moyo area along Kilifi-Mombasa Highway.

According to witnesses, the first accident involved a Toyota Landcruiser V8 vehicle which collided head-on with a canter.

Witnesses at the second scene said the driver, who is Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s nephew, was responding to his sister’s distress call after learning that she was involved in the first accident.

Joho’s nephew in pursuit to rescue his sister and her family also was involved in an accident, he collided head-on with a 14 seater matatu.

Ambulances from the Kilifi County Government and Mombasa Cement Company responded quickly and rushed those injured to Kilifi Hospital.

Kilifi CEC Health Charles Dadu Confirmed that two of the victims had succumbed including a mother who was traveling in the matatu to Mtwapa.

He said the mother was traveling with a toddler who is in stable condition.

Dadu said so far, three people were still in critical condition but were under the close watch of the medical personnel while the 13 others were stable and were responding well to treatment.

”At around 4.30 pm today we got a phone call about a grisly road accident near Mombasa cement we sought emergency services to respond, now we have completed rescuing them,” he said.

Dadu said 10 ambulances were mobilized including 8 from the county and two from Mombasa Cement.

He said they would give out a comprehensive report on Tuesday on the status of those with injuries.

Paul Muhonge an ambulance driver from Mombasa Cement said he was called by his boss informing him of the accident at Shauri Moyo.

He dispatched two vehicles one of which he was driving and rushed to the scene where they found people scattered all over the road.

”My vehicle carried two victims while the other ambulance carried four people in which one died, as a company we saved six people,” he said.

The driver said in the first accident no one died but the occupants sustained serious injuries and helped others which in total are 10 people.

The accident occurred in an area which is a hotspot and many lives have been lost by motorists plying the route.
