22-year-old man linked to the murder of boy aged 12 arrested by villagers » Capital News


NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 24 — Detectives in Uasin Gishu have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 12 -year-old boy.

Eric Kiptoo Kipsang was earlier apprehended by members of public led by the area village elder on Thursday evening  at Illula area near a dam as he attempted to commit suicide.

He had deep and small cuts on his right and left hands.

The villagers took him to Kapsoya Police Station where he was put under arrest to answer to charges of murder.

Kiptoo’s arrest came hours after a motor vehicle belonging  to Solomon Kipang Tarus,73, the suspect’s father, allegedly dropped a body of a dead person beside the road in the early morning hours within Kaptagat ward.

The report was filed by the area village elder at the Kapsoya Police Station.

“Officers from Kapsoya led by OCS  and DCIO Eldoret East visited the scene and found the said unknown body of a juvenile approximately 12 years old lying dead beside the Koilel-Chepkoilel road with injuries at the back of the head and blood oozing from anus,” police said Thursday.

The scene was processed by crime scene investigators and the deceased’s body moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police later recovered the vehicle in question parked at the suspect’s father’s residence.

“The owner of the Motor vehicle is the said Solomon Kipsang arap Tarus. On being questioned he alleged that his son one Eric Kiptoo Kipsang keiyo male aged 22 years had asked for the car keys at about 0600hrs and went to collect milk from KCC,” police stated.

When police gained entry into the suspect’s room, they discovered assorted blood-stained clothes, a blood-stained pillow, and a basin with bloodstains.

The suspect is currently in custody awaiting trial.
