Former South Africa striker Marc Batchelor, has been shot dead in Johannesburg.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker was driving his car on Monday night, July 15, when he was shot several times, police confirmed.

Police spokesman Lungelo Dlamini revealed the incident took place at around 6pm when two gunmen opened fire on his vehicle in Olivedale, according to News24..

“Yes, he was shot this evening by two men on a motorbike,” Dlamini told Soccer Laduma.

“He died in his vehicle and nothing was taken. The motive is yet to be established, but we are investigating.”

It has been reported that no arrests have been made yet.

Dlamini added to News24: “He was shot through the window several times and died at the scene.

“A case of murder is being investigated by the police and the motive behind the attack is still unknown.”

Batchelor was a witness in the South Africa Paralympian Oscar Pistorius’ murder trial, where he testified about the former Paralympian’s temper, according to IOL.

Meanwhile, TUKO.co.ke had earlier reported that the entire boxing fraternity has been thrown into mourning following the untimely demise of former four-weight world champion Pernell Whitaker.

According to the latest report on UK Mirror, Pernell Whitaker died after being struck by a car at the age of 55, at Virginia beach.
