Covid-19 Caseload Hits 256,134 as 202 Test Positive

The number of Covid-19 cases in Kenya surged to 256,134 after 202 people tested positive from a sample size of 6,312 tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings to 2,885,602, the cumulative number of samples tested so far. The country’s positivity rate stands at 3.2 per cent.

In a statement issued on Saturday, 11th, October Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 163 are Kenyans while 39 are foreigners with 102 being males and 100 females. The youngest is a three-month-old child while the oldest is 80.

Kagwe said 23 patients have recovered from the disease all of them from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. The total number of recoveries now stands at 248,511.

Sadly, four patients have succumbed to the disease, this now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,346.

Some 201 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 831 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and all of them are on ventilatory support.

Another 49 patients are on supplemental oxygen with 48 of them being in the general wards. One patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 10th December 2021, a total of 8,132,982 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.

Of these, 4,987,484 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,235,498.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.4 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 11.9 per cent.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
