– He joined Chelsea from Torino for a reported fee of €28 million plus bonuses

Premier League giants Chelsea have announced that defender Davide Zappacosta has signed a new one year deal with the Blues and has joined Italian side Roma on loan.

Zappacosta joined Chelsea from Torino in 2017 and has played 52 games for the Stamford Bridge landlords since he moved to the Premier League side.

He was also among the Chelsea squad who won the 2018/19 Europa League title beating Arsenal 4-1 in Baku.

The 27-year-old Italy international is now joining Roma who finished sixth in Serie A last season and reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

After their failure to finish among the top four teams in Italy, Roma will this term be competing in the Europa League under new manager Paulo Fonseca.

Fonseca replaced former Leicester City gaffer Claudio Ranieri who was asked to leave after the end of last season in Italy.


Meanwhile, Zappacosta’s teammates at Chelsea will campaign this season in the Champions League after finishing among the top four last term under Maurizio Sarri.
