Tanzania’s Nasibu Abdul Juma, popularly known by his stage name Diamond Platnumz, is on the receiving end after a clip of his acceptance speech during Best of Africa (BOA) awards went viral.

In the clip, the Bongo star is seen struggling to express himself in English after receiving the Philanthropic Endeavour Community Action Award during the BOA award ceremony on Sunday 6, in England.

Diamond was expected to give a speech which he did but according to netizens -in terrible English.

The Kanyaga hitmaker addressed the BOA awards attendees reminiscing days he started off from nothing and his belief in ‘dreams are valid’ for all who have talent in music.

However, internet users were quick to ignore his message and rather focused on how it was delivered.

One Instagram user by the name @picturestim_manywelee , commented on the video saying that “Wapiii harmonize na kingereza chake cha saraaaa  aje aonee wanaume huku,” while @simon_mwambuchi wondered “Kingereza gani hicho? Ongea Kiswahili,”

@deogratiasjenifa said “English gani hiyo unarudia tu eti positive way,”

Nevertheless, @official_mnogaking80 had a different opinion; “Best speech … Short and clear.”

Despite the backlash, the singer took to Instagram and shared a picture with a Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, who was also in London for the awards.

“First of all, am so grateful and honoured to receive this award, and I believe this award will motivate more youths back home and to change the mindset of a lot of musicians,” Diamond said in the speech that went viral.

BOA has been celebrating and rewarding Africans artists and players for their philanthropic endeavours and achievements in society.

Artistes and players with the greatest impact in the preceding year have been winning the award, with former Arsenal player Alex Iwobi among players who recently won the award in 2018.
