DP Ruto – If you circumcise my daughters, you will see fire
Deputy President William Ruto has warned anyone thinking of circumcising his daughters that they will not only face the law, but that he will first deal with them personally and ‘perpendicularly.’
Ruto gave the warning while attending an Ilchamus traditional wedding ceremony of local politician Amos Lempaka in Marigat, Baringo County.
“My mother’s age mates and others underwent the cut during those days; let anyone try that on my daughters…they will see me!” he said while warning the local community against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
“Lempaka daughters and other girls around here must be given a chance to pursue their studies. Even though the community must preserve their traditions, cutting of girls must come to an end. Those found will face the law,” he added.
Female circumcision has been linked to difficulties during childbirth and the DP warned the community not to expose their daughters to genital mutilation.
The DP’s daughters are June Chepchirchir based in Italy, Stephanie who recently graduated from Strathmore University, Nadia who is adopted and Cherlene Ruto.
