Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire.

The government will construct affordable houses in Embu county starting January 2023, says President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the University of Embu, he said the government would construct 5,000 units under the affordable housing project.

“The project will enable our people to own houses at an affordable price”, he said.

The President added that the construction would also present employment opportunities for the youth in Embu County. He said the government would soon roll out other development projects in Embu county.

Ruto used the forum to hit out at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga over his call for demonstrations on Wednesday, December  7 in his quest to defend the besieged IEBC commissioners. He said the government would provide security to Raila to ensure he conducts peaceful demonstrations.

Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire urged the President to ensure a stadium is built in the county. She also called for the construction of a modern market and revamping the health sector.

The governor disclosed that a medical equipment scheme during the former governor’s administration was a big scam, adding that the county has been paying more than Sh100 million per month for non-functioning MRI, CT scan and renal machines.

She said the suppliers of the machines should repair them.

Leaders who spoke during the thanksgiving service called on the President to deliver on the promises he made to Embu residents during his political campaigns.

Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Kiriga Ruku called for a better road network and the construction of dams for agriculture. He urged the President to appoint more people from Mbeere to his government.
