Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Hon Jackline Mwenesi has predicted a possible ‘handshake’ between President William Ruto and Azimio La Umoja Coalition Party Leader Raila Odinga in the near future.
Speaking in Kasipul in Homa Bay County on Monday during the burial of a couple who perished in a road accident in late April, Mwenesi told Kenyans that soon and very soon Azimio Leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto will be working together to the dismay of those who have created enmity out of politics.
She said she is not pleased that Kenyans on different sides of the political divide are trading barbs because of political differences.
Mwenesi, who served as UDA Party nominated Member of Vihiga County Assembly until 2022 was among mourners at the funeral of the couple, Elly Omondi and his wife Emmaculate Aluoch, who died in a traffic accident on the Kisumu-Kisii highway. Mr. Omondi was an employee of Kisumu’s water supply and sanitation company – Kiwasco.
“In the next two weeks, I can assure you, the two leaders will be reading from the same script. If anyone doubts this, you can tell them that it is Waziri Mwenesi who said it,” she said.
According to the CAS, ordinary Kenyans do not have problems with each other. Problem only occurs when politicians set them against each other for their own political gains.
“We know that the problems facing Kenyans cut across the length and breadth of the country. It doesn’t really matter your political inclination or tribe. And that is why the Kenya Kwanza government is working towards ensuring that the cost of living comes down. Every household wants the price of maize flour to come down, as well as the prices of all the other essential commodities,” she said.
She says it is her wish that as soon as it becomes convenient, the two leaders – that is Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga, and President Ruto – should create time and jointly tour Nyanza Region.
Her remarks came just one week after burying her father, Mzee Elphas Lukalo, at their home in Lugari, Kakamega County. In her characteristic motherly fashion, she asked the brothers of Elly and Emmaculate to give their children – who are still battling for their lives at a Kisumu hospital – the much needed parental support now that their parents are gone.
“Take good care of the two angels left behind. This will lessen the burden of losing both parents,” she said.
