The French Ligue I 2019/20 campaign is onto its third week, and there are season surprises already. PSG have dominated this league in the recent past, and French giants have continued to strengthen their squad with each passing season. Perhaps this is the season we see another team challenge for the title and even win it to end the domination established by PSG. It remains to be seen whether this can be achieved, but no one can say that it is impossible.

One of the most admired qualities of football is how the game can be unpredictable at times. Even the biggest of teams can sometimes fall to the smallest and unlikeliest of opponents. It is why you need to analyze every game, especially when it comes to betting. Many aspects have to be factored if one is to get the winning combination.

The most common betting tip is to consider the home team and the head to head to statistics. However, much goes into predictions if one is to win big. There ought to be a careful analysis of the injury situation in every team, new signings at a club, the current form of the group, depth of the squad and mentality of the team based on past performances.

French League 1 prediction

The predictions provided here are arrived at after analysis of various aspects of each fixture. The things to be considered include the head to head statistics, team history and current form. Having that in mind, here are the French League 1 football predictions:

1. Amiens vs Nantes

It is the first of the Ligue 1 betting tips. Amiens will be playing at home when they host Nantes. In their last fixture, they managed to beat Lille 1-0, but they were hugely aided by a 39th-minute Boubakary Soumare red card. As a result, the shift in dominance was in favour of Amiens who went ahead to win the game, albeit with a narrow scoreline. The fact that Amiens struggled for this victory is worrying, and one can only wonder how they will be performing against Nantes’ full squad.

Nantes is a strong side, but they have also had their struggles thus far. Their start to the current campaign has been rather sluggish, and they will wish to make amends before it is too late. With only one point from the first two games of the season, they will approach this fixture with every intent to win. The upside is that they faced strong opponents in Lille and Marseille.

Nantes have another bad record having kept only two clean sheets in their last fourteen competitive games. However, history is on the side of Nantes who have managed to win four of the previous five encounters with Amiens. With that insight, we predict Nantes to have a narrow win in this fixture.

Match prediction: Nantes wins

Score prediction: 0-1

2. Angers vs Metz

SCO Angers take on FC Metz in their third fixture of the French League 1 2019/20 season. Angers suffered a humiliating defeat to Lyon and will be seeking to bounce back to winning ways in this match. Angers lost their player Jeff Reine-Adelaide who left the club just before the close of the transfer window. Reine-Adelaide had been a pivotal part of Angers set up, and his departure seems to have destabilized the team, thus explaining the 6-0 thrashing by Lyon.

Before the club finds a perfect replacement for the midfielder, Angers might struggle further and even be relegated unless they act quickly. Metz is newly-promoted, but they have the energy to take on such a team like Angers. Last weekend, they put up an excellent display to win 3-0 against Monaco in what was one of the surprising upsets of the weekend.

Their star striker Habib Diallo is on fire having scored twice in that fixture and will be the man to watch in this game. Metz have an impressive record on the road having lost only two away games in the entire of last season. Angers, on the other hand, have issues with their defence having conceded 15 goals in their last five competitive matches. It suggests that Metz will most probably score in this fixture and win.

Match prediction: Metz wins

Score prediction: 1-2

3. Brest vs Reims

The Stade Bestois 89 VS Stade de Reims will be a match to watch this weekend. Brest are newly promoted, but it has not taken them long to show that they have what it takes to remain at this level. Their first two fixtures ended in draws against Toulouse and Saint-Etienne. The new boys are not shy to attack and will take an opportunity when it presents itself.

The home encounter will be a test for them to prove that they are ready to compete, and as such, they will be seeking to win at all costs. Another factor that is to their advantage is their record at home. Reims have four points out of the possible six so far having won one and drawn one. It is not bad considering it is their second year back if the French Ligue 1.

They are not afraid to play possession football, and Against Brest, they will be hoping to dominate in every aspect of the game. Their defence is pretty solid, and this will make it difficult for the opposition to find the back of the net. It is for that reason that Reims should emerge victorious despite the excellent record of Brest. Reims should continue with their impressive away record by winning even though with the smallest of margins.

Match prediction: Reims wins

Score prediction: 1-2

4. Dijon vs Bordeaux

The FCO Dijon will face FC Girondins de Bordeaux in their third fixture of the season. The home team have been unlucky not to pick any points so far so they will be keen to get their first points in this game. Bordeaux manager Paolo Sousa has a headache of his own having won 2 games after being in charge of the club for 15 league games. That is an unwanted record that tells us about the mentality of his players at the moment. They have picked only one point out of the possible six so far.

Bordeaux has conceded 29 goals in their last fifteen games, making it almost two goals for every game. The only consolation for Bordeaux is that Dijon is equally suffering. Dijon has lost their two opening games, and as a result, they are sitting at the very bottom spot of the league table.

Dijon has been unfortunate because the two games they lost were not convincing wins either. With a little bit more effort, the team could get some positive results and perhaps move out of the relegation zone. Dijon should have the upper hand in this fixture because they will be playing at home where they have an impressive record.

Match prediction: Dijon wins

Score prediction: 2-0

5. Monaco vs Nimes

Monaco and Nimes are not in their best forms currently. Both teams have failed to win even a single game as they lost their two opening matches for the season. It means that much will be at stake for both teams in this fixture, so it is expected that the teams will give it their all. Monaco has a good squad, but it seems that the players have given up on their manager after he showed interest in moving to China.

Monaco did bring in new signings, but they have had their share in the poor start of the season with one making a blunder in goal while another was shown a red card in his second appearance for the club. The biggest surprise was losing to newly promoted Metz, but it is too early to spell doom on the club. Last season Nimes won four points in their two clashes with Monaco. If this trend is to be relied on, it will be easy to determine that Nimes will win or at least get the point from this fixture.

However, they started their campaign on the low, and players lack the momentum to win a game of this magnitude. Nimes sold some key players and coupled with difficult fixtures at the beginning of their season, and they now have to search for their first win in the third week. Nimes is still shaky at the back, but they will inevitably cause Monaco some problems. The prediction for this match is that Nimes will win by a narrow margin.

Match prediction: Nimes wins

Score prediction: 1-2

6. Strasbourg vs Rennes

The second match on Sunday will see Strasbourg host Rennes at the Stade de la Meinau. Rennes’ start has been spectacular by winning their two opening matches of the season. The talking point, however, is their surprise win over defending champions PSG. It can only prove that they are serious about their business, and they are ready to take on any team in the process.

Strasbourg’s start has been as impressive as that of their opponent. The home team have only managed to draw in their two opening games. It gives them two of the total six points. Head to head statistics favours Rennes who have won 5 matches while Strasbourg has only won three. One sure thing is that this fixture tends to end with many goals being scored at both sides of the pitch. With this, Renne’s current form is likely to help them take home all three points.

Match prediction: Rennes wins

Score prediction: 2-3

7. PSG vs Toulouse

PSG is the hallmark of French football, but last week we were reminded that even a giant could be slain. In the late kickoff on Sunday PSG will be hosting Toulouse at the Parc des Princes. Toulouse comes into this fixture with the better record having won the first two games while PSG has only won one. The PSG assignment, however, is not close to anything Toulouse has encountered so far. The away team is unlucky to travel to PSG when the home team is revenging for last week’s defeat.

It is expected that PSG is the dominant side when it comes to a head to head statistics. The home team has won 25 of the 38 games played between the two clubs. Toulouse has won only eight while the remaining five ended in a draw. It shouldn’t be that difficult, therefore to predict the outcome of this game. Every aspect of the game will be dominated by PSG who will be seeking to return to winning ways, and they will do so with a comfortable victory.

Match prediction: PSG wins

Score prediction: 4-1

8. Montpellier vs Lyon

Montpellier host Olympique Lyon at the Stade de la Mosson. Lyon finds themselves at the top of the table at this moment in time. They will be relying on this momentum to mount pressure on the home team to maintain their lead. Lyon has impressed having scored nine goals in their last two games. With this record, it is hard to see how Montpellier will manage to keep Lyon from scoring.

Montpellier is winless in their first two games of the season. They sit at number 15 in the table and will be hoping for any result that would move them from this position. Montpellier have struggled at home in recent times, and this should be a reason to worry for anyone tempted to place money on the home team. A look at the head to head results also indicates that Lyon has the upper hand in this fixture. Lyon has won 4 of the last nine encounters while Montpellier registered only one win.

Match prediction: Lyon wins

Score prediction: 1-2

9. Lille vs St Etienne

It is by far the biggest game of the weekend in French Ligue 1. Lille will be hosting Saint-Etienne at the Stade Pierre Mauroy. Currently, Lille is in the 10th position and will be seeking to move up to a Champions League spot. St Etienne will not be the easiest of opponents as they have proven to be all-rounded and able to take on even the most prominent teams. St Etienne is at position 6, and they wouldn’t want to slip either, so this should be an encounter that will be mouth-watering.

Lille will be playing at home, and this should give them a boost to get a positive result. Head to head statistics is also in favour of Lille who has won 5 of the previous ten encounters while Etienne won only three of the remaining 5. Etienne has failed to beat Lille at home in their last five battles. The home team should, therefore, capitalize on this advantage and win.

Match prediction: Lille wins

Score prediction: 3-2

10. Nice vs Marseille

Matchday 3 of the French Ligue 1 will end with the clash between Nice and Marseille. The fixture is scheduled to take place at the Allianz Riviera which is Nice’s home ground. Nice have done well to pick maximum points from their first two games and will be seeking to continue with this impressive record. The home team sits second in the league table only because Lyon has a superior goal difference.

Marseille, on the other hand, have had a start they would wish is behind them as they seek to bounce back to winning ways. They have one point so far and are just above the relegation zone. Head to head statistics favours a Marseille win because they have won 6 of their last ten encounters while Nice have won only 3. However, going by the current form and the fact that Nice will be at home, we predict that Nice will be takin all three points.

Match prediction: Nice wins

Score prediction: 2-0

At times, the French Ligue 1 is the closest thing one can get to fantasy football. The goals and tackles can be on another level, which shows the seriousness with which players take this league. Matchday 3 should be no different as we anticipate for fireworks from the fixtures for this weekend. The predictions given should provide a rough idea of how the fixtures will end.
