Gachagua grooms Malala running-mate – Weekly Citizen

The planned recruitment exercise of UDA party members, a scheme to have Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties merge in the runup to the 2027 general election and the formation of the Office of the Spouse to the prime cabinet secretary have left Musalia Mudavadi vulnerable to impeachment.

Former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala, who failed to retain the seat on the Mudavadi’s ANC was recently poached by president William Ruto’s UDA courtesy of deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, to become the party’s secretary general in what political analysts say is a creation of another centre of power in western region much to the chagrin of Mudavadi’s supporters who feel uncomfortable with his decision to relinquish ANC party leadership to Lamu governor Issa Timammy.

Gachagua and Malala were later to visit Rift Valley where the deputy president praised Malala. Malala went ahead to boast how he was set paint Kisumu yellow with UDA colours.

Word has it that Ruto is confused how to handle the emerging Gachagua factor in Kenya Kwanza and UDA politics fearing that the Kikuyu vote bloc will start dissenting if not well handled.

Aware of Ruto’s Kikuyu headache, Gachagua is slowly consolidating his power as he fights Mudavadi and Ford-K leader Moses Wetang’ula to extend his political tentacles.

Remember, Gachagua has been funding Malala to run various football tournaments in Western counties to undercut Mudavadi and Wetang’ula.

Word has it that Gachagua wants Malala to be his running mate 2032 and that is why he is to run UDA affairs.

According to Malala, the membership recruitment exercise will begin in Western Kenya this weekend before spreading to other parts of the country.

He reiterated that all parties within Kenya Kwanza coalition must fold into one party before the next general election.

The disquiet among Mudavadi supporters is pegged on the fact that in the 2013 general election, 11 political parties including Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA joined hands with other parties such as Ruto’s URP and ahead of the 2017 general election, all the parties folded to create Jubilee party with a sole purpose of Uhuru’s re-election.

Clandestinely, president Ruto has been forging an elaborate plan to build behemoth political machine and that UDA is set for massive revamping and strengthening aimed at swallowing all its partners in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, something Gachagua is using, aware Mudavadi will not agree to just like Alfred Mutua of CCM.

In fact word has it that Gachagua is behind the current move by the state to whittle down Foreign Affairs powers after Mutua decided not to fold his party.

Sources within national assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula camp confided that the Ford-K leader is keenly watching as events unfold in national politics but downplaying the recent developments for the sake of holding the plum post for two terms.

After the establishment of the Office of the Spouse of the prime cabinet secretary sparked furore with a section of Kenyans terming it unnecessary and a waste of taxpayers’ money, Mudavadi has since concealed the location of the office.

After the function that was held at Hotel Movenpick in Nairobi, Mudavadi and his wife Tessie Mudavadi have, however, defended its creation saying the office will be beneficial as it would champion equity among the less fortunate in society, including persons with disabilities and the elderly.

The new office comes barely months after Charlene Ruto, president Ruto’s daughter stoked controversies when she suggested the existence of the office of the first daughter. His father came to her defence, saying she was just excited about being the child of a president.

According to Mudavadi, the Office of the Spouse to the prime cabinet secretary was established to complement the work being undertaken by the Office of the First Lady and that of the Second Lady.

AntiMudavadi forces in the government are behind a law suit filed against the office of his wife.

If found unconstitutional, Mudavadi will have been wounded.

Azimio has said it is baffling that the Kenya Kwanza administration is obsessed with creating positions at the expense of the struggling taxpayers.

Law Society of Kenya now wants the Public Service Commission to certify the legality of the establishment of the office of the spouse to the prime cabinet secretary.

LSK president Eric Theuri asked the PSC to furnish them with the legal framework that guides the establishment, financial implications in setting up the office, and how beneficial the office is to the members of the public.

Theuri threatened to challenge the legality of the office, if he is not provided with the requested documents within the next seven days.

“Please note that we shall be constrained to move to court and challenge the establishment of the office, if the information sought above is not made available upon the expiry of the period set above,” Theuri stated.
