A sixteen-year-old student strangled her four months old baby before committing suicide at Kapkiamo village in Baringo North Sub-County on Wednesday.

Lucy Chelimo, a Form Three student at Kapkimo Secondary School, was reportedly angered by her parent’s decision to stop her from attending classes.
According to police and neighbours, Chelimo’s parents refused to take care of the child to enable her to attend classes.
Area Police Commander Robison Ndiwa said Chelimo’s body was found dangling from a tree within their homestead while the baby’s body was retrieved from a shallow grave nearby.
“Detectives have picked up the matter, though it is suspected it was harassment (due to) from the family,” Ndiwa said.
Her father Charles Chelimo, however, said he was in shock and wondered why his daughter committed suicide yet he had paid all her fees.

George Gitukia is said to have fell into the tank on Wednesday evening.
According to eyewitnesses, the man had gone to relieve himself in a pit latrine when it caved in and swept him into a septic tank connected to the toilet.
Police officers and locals tried to rescue him but their efforts were hampered by lack of equipment.
“We heard the man scream for help while in the toilet, but we could not rescue him because of lack of skills and the septic tank was also filled up,” said Barbar Chief Bernard Waweru.
Elsewhere, the body of a 30-year-old man was found dumped at Kirengero trading centre in Subukia.
Nakuru Police Commander Stephen Matu said the naked body had physical injuries on the head and hands.
The body of the small scale farmer was discovered by residents.
“Investigations into the murder has been launched to bring the suspects to book,” said Matu.
“His killing raises questions because he had just sold his motorcycle,” said Vincent Kimani, a resident.
Meanwhile, police are probing the death of a 40-year-old woman whose body was found dumped at a thicket on the railway line at Elburgon town.
According to Matu, Rachel Wanja’s body had no physical injuries.
