Gor Mahia Through to Next Round of Caf Confederation Cup

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Gor Mahia have qualified for the next round of the Caf Confederation Cup after of South Sudan failed to travel to Nairobi for the return leg.

The much anticipated match was meant to be played today, Sunday, 24th October at Nyayo National Stadium.

In a statement, Caf announced that it had received an official letter from Sudan’s football governing body notifying of Al Ahly Merowe’s withdrawal from the competition.

“Reference the above mentioned match, we would like to inform you that the Sudanese federation have communicated the withdrawal of the club Al Ahly Merowe from the competition,” read part of the Caf’s statement.

“Accordingly, we hereby inform you that the match is cancelled and that Gor Mahia have been qualified to the Additional 2nd Preliminary round of the competition,” CAF said in a statement.

Gor Mahia had won the first leg 3-1 in a match played on Friday, 15th October at Suez Stadium in Egypt.

K’Ogalo are now the only team from the Cecafa region to make it to the next stage. The Kenyan side will be joined in the next stage (play-off) by Rwanda’s APR FC, Tusker FC (Kenya) and Simba SC (Tanzania) who fell out in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
