Governor Barasa bid to save Golf Hotel – Weekly Citizen

The Kakamega county governor Fernandez Barasa is opposing a move by government to privatize Golf Hotel in Kakamega town.

Golf Hotel is one of the hotels the state is planning to denationalize to help it run its affairs as the crunch of economic woes continue to bite.

The hotel falls under Kenya Tourist Development Corporation.

The KTDC owns 80pc stake in the hotel, while 20pc shares belong to the defunct Kakamega municipal council now Kakamega county.

Apart from Golf, others on the radar include Mt Elgon Lodge Ltd in Bungoma county, Sunset Hotel in Kisumu, Kabarnet Hotel in Baringo and the Kenya Safari Lodges and Hotels.

According to the government plan, the resources accrued will be used to modernize the facility.

According to Barasa, Golf Hotel is a worthy investment and has suggested that it will remain owned by the K a k a m e g a c o u n t y government.

Barasa’s move has won hearts of locals who fear that outsiders are out to grab magnif icent utility.

The hotel would rather hold county events there rather than go outside which will be cost effective.

According to one William Owuya, the hotel is key in the region.
