Homa Bay gets Sh2.7bn to fund orphans education : The Standard

The Department of Children in Homa Bay County has received Sh2.7 million to fund orphans and vulnerable children’s education.

The funds disbursed through the Presidential Bursary Fund will be distributed to more than 800 needy and vulnerable students in secondary schools in the county.
Homa Bay County Director of Children Peter Kutere said they had already had the funds in their bank accounts.
Kutere said the money is meant for the first quarter of the current financial year.

Addressing journalists in his office, Kutere said the selected students will get a minimum of Sh10,000 and a maximum of Sh30,000 per year based on their needs.
“We will consider retention of students in school. We will assess their needs to enable us determine the amount of money given to each student,” said Kutere.

Kutere said they are still receiving applications from students who need the financial support.
“Our main is to disburse the money in a manner that will retain the students in schools,” Kutere added.

Other requirements include applicant’s birth certificate, parents’ death certificates and a calling letter.
Kutere also assured elderly persons that they will soon receive their monthly stipend arrears of four months.
Each of the senior citizens will receive Sh8,000 from July to October.
“I have spoken to Labour and Social Protection PS Nelson Marwa who assured me that they are only waiting for the Treasury to release the funds,” said Kutere.
