Deputy President William Ruto and his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) brigade toured various constituencies within Nyeri County on Saturday, December 4, with hefty donations.

The DP made his first stop in Karatina town, where he donated Ksh3 million to women and mitumba traders. In the same constituency, he donated Ksh500,000 each to boda boda riders groups who were in attendance at a fundraiser.

In order to popularise his bid to empower women, Ruto splashed Ksh500,000 to Konyu Women Group after he was impressed by the members’ green and yellow attire.

“I admire the spirit and tenacity I see in the women groups of Konyu in Mathira Constituency and across the country. I recognize this spirit, this desire to make tomorrow a better day financially, because it is the hustler spirit,” the DP stated.

Former Jubilee women dancers, who had announced their move to UDA, were not left behind as Ruto splashed Ksh500,000 to their group.

Ruto made his final stop in Mukurwe-ini constituency where he donated Ksh2 million for boda boda riders and small scale businesses.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua added to DP’s contributions by donating Ksh2 million in Karatina while Woman Representative Rahab Mukami gave out Ksh40,000.

Speaking in Mathira, Ruto noted that should he form the next government, they would set aside Ksh100 billion for employment opportunities as well as cater for the Small and Medium businesses.

“By next year, if we form the government, we shall not be using money from our pockets but from government coffers to support SMEs through the bottom-up economic model,” he stated.

The generous donations is perceived as a strategic move to counter Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s recent visit to the county. The DP also poked holes on Raila’s Azimio la Umoja campaign bid- noting that his bottom-up model would be the cure for the country’s economic crisis.

“Do you want “mtu wa kitendawili” or a hustler? He has a record of destroying political parties, and disrupting government programmes such as the Big Four Agenda,” Ruto stated
