A football match in Jamaica was abruptly halted after a horrifying lightning striking down two players leaving them with injuries.

The incident is understood to have taken place in the second half of the clash pitting Wolmer’s Boys’ School and Jamaica College at the Stadium East field in Kingston.

According to SunSport citing Loop News, tragedy struck while Wolmer’s were leading 2-1 when the bolt hit, causing four players to fall to the floor.

Jamaica College player Terrence Francis and Wolmer player Dwayne Allen both had to be rushed to University Hospital in West Indies for observation after failing to respond to field treatment.

Francis’ teammate Nickache Murray also had to be admitted later after complaining of chest pains, but had to be held overnight after further tests showing ECG irregularities.

In a footage of the shocking incident that has since surfaced online, two players can be seen dropping and clutching their heads after lightning striking.

The rest of the players however continue to play on, unaware of what had befell their teammates.

Fortunately, referee Karl Tyrell blow the whistle soon after, drawing the attention of people who later rush onto the pitch to help.

Meanwhile, fear of similar incidents taking place has seen postponement of two Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Cup matches.
