His contribution has now seen him scoop the prestigious honorary FIFPro Merit Award 2019 edition and $25000 (KSh2.5 million) as prize money.

The Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) chairman, James Situma and Secretary General, Jerry Santo received the cheque on behalf of Omollo, who hails from the sprawling Dandora slums.

The association, whose mandate is advocate for players’ rights has since hailed the Kenyan international for picking up the award.

“Congratulations @luchyboy and @Omolofoundation who turns out for @cercleofficial for winning @FIFPro Merit award 2019. Keep on the good work,” KEFWA tweeted.

The Harambee Stars ace beat five other contestants around the world to the award, becoming the 12th player to receive the gong and third in Africa.

The FIFPro Award recognises professional footballers who do outstanding work in order to improve other people’s lives by dedicating their time and resources for the benefit of charity.
