Kenya, Singapore to strengthen bilateral cooperation

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 18 – Kenya and Singapore will work together to strengthen trade cooperation between the two countries.

The two nations will forge partnerships in the areas of transport, agriculture, and housing.

This was confirmed by President William Ruto, who hosted Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien in Nairobi.

“We have invited Singapore’s private sector to consider investment opportunities in our transport sector,” said the president today.

“We have also explored the potential of Singapore becoming a gateway for Kenya’s agricultural products to the ASEAN region,” he added.

To advance his housing agenda, Ruto said that the government will seek to learn from and get support from the Southeast Asian country.

It comes at a time when Ruto’s government seeks to provide Kenyans with affordable housing through a three-percent deduction on the employed that is awaiting parliamentary approval.

The proposed housing levy is contained in the Finance Bill 2023.
