Scores were injured when traders from Embu County clashed with their rivals from Meru.
Witnesses said tension has been building for the last few days due to a trade dispute and degenerated into the fight that lasted several hours.
The police were deployed to contain the situation.

Seven MCAs from muguka-growing parts of Embu County convened a crisis meeting yesterday morning to address the issue, which they said weighs heavily on the county’s economy.
Led by Kirimari MCA Morris Nyaga, the ward representatives said whereas the Constitution allows free trade in all parts of the country, Meru traders should not engage in price wars as this would impoverish Embu muguka farmers.
The MCAs further resolved to push the Embu County Executive to allocate a space for trading of miraa from Meru to avoid future trade disputes.
They also want the Executive to impose levies on vehicles bringing miraa from outside Embu.

“In Embu, we have zoned a space for muguka trading. Meru traders are bringing their miraa to the same market. When their consignment arrives, the price falls by half,” said Nyaga.

Norah Jelagat Borus, the best girl in Nairobi County in the 2013 KCSE results, is dead.

The Stanford University undergraduate was on Friday found dead at her on-campus residence in the US.
Borus sat her KCSE exam at Precious Blood Secondary School, Riruta, and joined California-based Stanford University to study engineering. She was the fourth best student nationally.
Borus’s death is the fourth reported at Stanford this year. The university is currently in the middle of Commencement Weekend where would-be graduates hold festivities.
The university’s Vice Provost for Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole confirmed the death in an email to the students, saying they were ‘not in a position to share the identity of the student’.
“We have lost another member of our student community. Police this afternoon have confirmed the death of an undergraduate co-term student who was found in a residence on campus,” Brubaker-Cole said.
She added they have been in touch with Borus’s family and police had been notified.
In another campus-wide email, university president Marc Tessier-Lavigne and provost Persis Drell added, “…deep, sustained conversation is needed about how the university can best provide the resources and necessary support for the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of all members of our campus community.”
Daily Nation, who spoke to the family, stated that her relatives have left for the United States to establish the cause of her death.
The paper quoted the family spokesperson Joseph Maswan.

They Didn’t Look For Votes On My Behalf, I Went Looking For My Votes, President Kenyatta Tells Off ‘Allies’ –

Published

on

Kenya could be in for a changing political landscape and a major crack in Jubilee, after President Uhuru Kenyatta openly told off those politicking about 2022.

Speaking during the 2019 Akorino Annual conference, President Kenyatta seemingly sending a coded message switched to Kikuyu language, accusing some politicians of ‘giving him headache’ for politicking about 2022.

“These thugs that we elected are busy politicking. They should not think I am their boy, they will not stop me from constructing roads. They didn’t look for votes on my behalf. I went looking for my votes. These rubbish should stop bothering me,” said Kenyatta.

Kenyatta added that he had chosen to refrain from newspapers and social media since they were saturated with politics.

“When they see me remain silent, they should not think they are threatening me. I will flush them out from where they are… Just because you are making headlines, don’t think you will bother me. And that is why I stopped concentrating on newspapers or those Facebooks of theirs,” he added.

The President seemingly did not spare his deputy William Ruto who was present, attacking his political faction dubbed Tanga tanga, for politicking about 2022.

“If you are an elected leader go to the grassroots construct schools, install electricity for your people stop going round telling us how you shall rise to power. You will not go anywhere without these people,” said Mr Kenyatta.

An Eldoret court has fined a prosecutor based in Kitale Sh200,000 after he was found guilty of soliciting bribes.

Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa ruled that James Naburuk Sichangi will serve two years in jail in default for two counts of receiving bribe contrary to Ethics and Economic Crime Act.
Obulutsa said although the accused was the first offender, his action exposed the National police and the office of Director of Public Prosecutor to public ridicule and contempt.
According to charge sheet the accused, who was working as a court prosecutor at Kitale law court on November 15 2014, solicited for a bribe of Sh60,000 from Ms Joyce Wanjiku as an inducement to support a bail application by Wanjiku’s employee Fred Wabuoba who was charged in a Kitale court.

The complainant reported the matter to the offices of EACC in Eldoret where she was given a recorder and Sh60, 000 marked money which was given to the accused as a bribe.
The charge sheet further stated that the accused was recorded asking for the money.
He received the treated money on November 13 at the Kitale law court where he was immediately arrested by EACC detectives.
