A man reportedly committed suicide by throwing himself inside a Quarry Mine in Nairobi’s Pipeline area.
The man’s body is yet to be retrieved from the Quarry Mine 24 hours after he allegedly committed suicide.
Faith Mwau his sister in law says that the deceased woke up well on Thursday morning and took his children to school.
According to Mwau, he later went to the house and then left for work with a colleague only for the wife to be called 30 minutes later that he had died.
“He woke up in the morning and took the children to school. He later left the house with a friend for work. His wife gave him a push to work, he even gave her money for shopping,” said Mwau.
“We received a phone call 30 minutes later that Waweru is dead,” she said.
Frantic efforts by family members to retrieve the body have not been fruitful.
“We have tried to look for his body in vain. His body is still stuck in the pit despite efforts by people to retrieve the body.”
Area residents are now calling on the government to bury the quarry mine saying that it has become dangerous.
“This pit has killed so many people since it was drilled. I am really urging the government to close up this pit because it is dangerous so many people have died here,” claimed a resident.
The residents say that the quarry mine even harbours people who commit crime in the area.
