New Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho suffered his first defeat at the North London London club in dramatic fashion as his side went down 2-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

In a game that was rigged with numerous sub plots, all eyes were on Mourinho’s Spurs who were seemingly finding their glittery form under the Portuguese who was dismissed from Old Trafford exactly a year ago.

On paper, Spurs were slight favorites based on their form and momentum over the past few games but it was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men who drew first blood courtesy of their golden boy Marcus Rashford.

Rashford was on target after just six minutes as he beat Tottenham goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga at his near post after the ball broke for him off Davinson Sanchez.

Mourinho’s unlikely talisman Delle Ali equalised towards the end of the first half with a stunning strike in a goal which many would agree was against the run of play as Spurs were not necessarily at their best throughout the match.

The second half began as dramatic as the first as United were handed a controversial penalty after Rashford went down in Tottenham’s box.

After a lengthy consultation with the Video Assisted Referee (VAR), the penalty was given and Rashford made no mistake with his spotkick as he slotted his ninth of the season.

Mourinho’ s men were fairly tame for most of the game and hardly troubled keeper David De Gea , although the major positive the Portuguese will take from the game is the resurgence of Delle Ali.

Ali’s goal on the night was his third in three Premier League games ; a major contrast to his previous three in 17 games under Pochettino.

The win takes United up to sixth with 21 points, behind Wolverhampton Wanderers on goal difference and two ahead of Arsenal who face Brighton on Thursday, December 6.
