Tanzania international Mbwana Samatta cannot wait to face Liverpool when his side Genk clash with the current champions at Anfield, in the UEFA Champions League group E tie.

The Belgian League star earned the Golden Boot after racking up 20 goals last season, and is currently joint top scorer in the 2019/20 campaign, alongside Congolese forward Dieumerci Mbokani, with five goals a piece.

Samatta showed Africans a glimpse of his capabilities despite Tanzania failing to progress beyond the group stage at the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 held in Egypt.

And now having missed a shot at facing Sadio Mane, who sat out Senegal’s 2-0 win over Samatta Taifa Stars in Egypt owing to suspension, the 26-year-old says he is looking forward to the tie.

“I thank God because he continues to provide awesome blessings on me. I have played in the Europa League and now the Champions League is just around the corner,” Samatta told Daily News.

“It will be a dream to play at Anfield and I am looking forward to the match,” he said.

Samatta’s club faces Salzburg, Liverpool, and Napoli in Group E of the European club competition.

However, the Taifa stars captain is well aware of the challenge ahead for the Belgian First Division A champions.

“We are not among the favourite teams to do well in comparison with Liverpool, Napoli as well as Salzburg because they have vast experience in the competition, said Samatta.

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that Samatta is turning heads across Europe with many top clubs after the KRC Genk star’s signature.

English Premier League clubs Brighton and Hove Albion, Watford, Leicester City and Burnley were all linked with the Taifa Stars captain this summer.
