Nairobi resident lobbies for Governor Sonko’s deputy job in newspaper advert

A Nairobi resident on Wednesday publicly expressed his interest to be Governor Mike Sonko’s deputy.

In a newspaper advert titled ‘Expression of Interest, Philip Chogoti Chepsat, urged Governor Sonko to appoint him as his deputy governor.

Mr. Chepsat went on to detail his credentials as being a university graduate with over 15 years of experience in public service.

He further revealed to the Nairobi County boss that: “I have reached out to you openly because I am not sure if my earlier communication did reach you.”

“I also know that you cherish openness and transparency. I am driven by a strong conviction that I could make significant contribution to your efforts to improve Nairobi city,” read the ad in the Nation newspaper.

Mr. Chepsat further vowed that, if given the chance, he would exceed the expectations of Governor Sonko as well as those of Nairobi residents.

Meanwhile, Governor Sonko is on record, when he appeared before the Senate’s Devolution Committee, insisting that the appointment of his deputy is a non-issue adding that no law compels him to do so.

The Nairobi Deputy Governor position has been vacant since January 2018 when Polycarp Igathe resigned citing a strained work relationship with his boss.

Sonko, speaking on Igathe’s replacement, previously stated that he is looking for a competent and strong candidate adding that he will not tolerate laziness and corruption.
