NONINI WINS COPYRIGHT CASE, GETS AWARDED KSH. 1 MILLION – GhettoRadio 89.5 FM

Legendary Genge artist Nonini has won a case filed against an electronics company and influencer Brian Mutinda over copyright infringement.

The electronics company going by the name Syinix Electronics used Nonini’s tune ‘We Kamu’ without his consent in their 2022 advertisement featuring digital content creators Brian Mutinda and Stacey Atieno.

In a recent post on his social media pages, the US- based artist has announced that the case has been ruled in his favour.

A judgment was yesterday delivered at the Milimani Commercial Magistrate Court with the judge stating that Nonini had successfully proven his case.

Nonini was then awarded Ksh.1 Million as general damages for his copyright infringement and directed that the defendant take down the video featuring Nonini’s song on their respective social media platforms.

After the verdict, Nonini has expressed his satisfaction with the decision.

“I have several Copyright Infringement cases in court that have been running simultaneously some for several years!  Today March 23rd 2023 will go down in history (Year of the Jordan) & is a Win for the Kenyan Music Industry  Vs the people who used my song “WeKamu” to push a product.” Reads Nonini’s statement.
