It was a nostalgic moment in a little Aurangabad village in India when Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i came knocking on a former grocer’s door on Monday, July 8.

However, when he returned to Kenya in 1989, he had an outstanding balance of KSh 300 according to Indian Today report on Thursday, July 10.

As a student of business management in the same locality, Tong’i would often run out of cash and as s result, he bough items on credit from Gawli, with hope of offsetting the debt the following day.

“As a student in Aurangabad, I was at my lowest point, when these people (Gawlis) helped me. Then I thought that some day, I will come back and repay. I want to say thank you. This is so emotional for me,” he said during the reunion.

Gawli ran a grocery shop in the Wankhedenagar locality where the now lawmaker stayed.

“God bless the old man (Gawli) and his children. They were wonderful to me. They wanted to take me to a hotel for meal but I insisted that we should eat in their house,” he added.
