She was a woman of many firsts.

Manduli made history as the first woman in the country to participate in East Africa Safari Rally in 1974 and 1975.

She became the first female to serve as the chairperson of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) council.

At the age of 16, she was crowned Miss World Kenya.

Still, at 16, she married, but divorced three years later.

The veteran journalist and politician never shied away from the limelight, which enabled her to advocate for women’s leadership.

Her trademark was the sky-scraping headgear and fashionable Nigerian-inspired attires.
