Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga called off countrywide rallies that the opposition had planned in a move to protest the ouster of four IEBC commissioners otherwise known as ‘Cherera four’.

In a statement, Raila noted that the decision was reached following an appeal from parents concerning the ongoing national exams.

“To this end, we have decided to reschedule the start of our public engagements from tomorrow, November 30, 2022, to December 7, 2022, due to the ongoing national examinations. We have listened to the appeals of parents and our school-going children and we decided to obey their wishes,” part of the statement read.

Further, the opposition called on President William Ruto to focus on real matters affecting the nation claiming the government has shifted focus to the 2027 general election.

They maintain that the ongoing questioning of ‘Cherera 4’ is a strategic plan for the next general election.

“Our stand remains that the focus on the four commissioners is not about the 2022 elections. It is about the 2027 elections whose rigging the Ruto regime is putting in place in 2022,” they claimed.

Adding;

We are aware that the products of the Kangaroo meetings in the name of JLAC are scheduled to be tabled on Thursday, December 1, 2022, and subsequently a special sitting to sanitize the report is to be called on December 7. This how desperate and insensitive the regime is. They are calling a special sitting, not about hunger or drought, insecurity and related issues. Instead, they are focusing on petty political scores and the 2027 elections. We appeal to the Kenya Kwanza administration to please focus. Focus on what really matters for Kenyans now, which is the cost of living, and not the 2027 elections,” the statement further reads.
