Ruto to chair first paperless Cabinet meeting – Kenya Satellite News Network

The first paperless Cabinet meeting will be presided over by President William Ruto on Tuesday as the Kenya Kwanza government pushes for its digitalization agenda.

Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cabinet has never held a meeting online.

The Cabinet used to meet in State House, but they adhered to the Covid-19 prevention strategy, which included mask use and social seclusion.

President Ruto had stated at the beginning of the year that under the new administration, Cabinet meetings would now be conducted entirely online.

“From the next Cabinet meeting our Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau has assured us our meetings are going to be paperless. We are going to run cabinet based on the digital space,” Ruto said.

Atleast 300 government services have already been digitised.

“It will be expected of government in every department that we leverage on technology to make government much more efficient,” he said.

“Sending a letter takes longer than sending an email. The email arrives instantly. The letter tells us we have to get a messenger, a motorbike and a receptionist and all manner of bureaucracy.”
