Sabina Chege Endorses Gachagua, Declares Support for Ruto – Nairobi Times
Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege on Friday, January 27, declared that she would not join in the demonstration rallies organised by the Azimio la Umoja faction in protest of the current government’s policies.
While addressing mourners at a funeral in Murang’a County, the Jubilee Party legislator stated that she was ready to work with and support President William Ruto’s government.
She noted that the meeting between President Ruto and Jubilee’s elected leaders on Monday, January 23, proved that she respects the President and his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Chege declared her support for Gachagua, affirming that he was the de facto leader of her Mount Kenya region.

“This past week, I went to State House. I got there before every one of you – because I respect anointment and elected leaders.
“At the moment, the region’s leader is Rigathi Gachagua, and we must support him,” she stated.
While addressing the particulars of the meetings with President Ruto at State House, the MP affirmed that they negotiated on behalf of the communities to solicit support for development projects started in the previous regime.
In addition, Chege noted that the meeting secured Ruto’s affirmation that civil servants and public officers appointed by Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government who hail from the Mount Kenya region will retain their positions.
“We had a meeting discussing the welfare of our community and the projects started in the past regime because we still need the roads.
“We also agreed that our people in various would not lose their positions because they were serving the government of the day,” she noted.
Her remarks came amid increased efforts by Azimio leader, Raila Odinga, to rally his supporters in backing the planned rallies in different parts of the country.
Chege’s stance on the rallies exposed cracks within the party led by Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni. The former Ndaragwa MP has been actively involved in Azimio’s latest protest against the alleged rigging of the August General Election.
In an interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Kioni stated that his party would “stop at nothing” in its pursuit of justice and answers regarding the outcome of the last election.
