Bodies of two Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates have this afternoon been retrieved from a dam and their remains transferred to KU Funeral Home.

The boys drowned at Theta Dam yesterday afternoon during a school trip. They were pupils at Comejuu Premier Academy in Githunguri, Kiambu County.

The school head teacher David Paul Kang’ethe said that about 60 Class 8 and Grade 6 learners from the learning institution had gone to Kinare Forest for an excursion when the tragic incident happened.

The tragic outing happened shortly after the deceased and their counterparts finished rehearsals for the KCPE examination on Friday.

The departed youngsters were to sit for their final exams in primary school starting Monday next week.

Specific details about how the accident occurred have been out of reach by the time of filing this report.

A member of one of the bereaved families wrote to education activist Ndungu Nyoro last evening, claiming that the school first withheld information regarding the tragedy from parents until later in the evening.

“At 8:30 pm, the mum was called to go to the school since there was an emergency but did not disclose any more information. When we were almost approaching the school, we were told to go to a hospital where they shared the information. Our candidate was not sick but dead,” she shared via Facebook inbox.
