– Photos of the clearly stranded athletes with their luggage surfaced online painting a desperate situation

Preparations for Team Kenya’s African Games scheduled for Monday, August 19 to 31 in Morocco have been marred with confusion.

This after drama ensuing on Tuesday, August 13, at Nairobi’s Luke Hotel after Athletics and volleyball teams for African Games were kicked out of the facility over non-payment of bills.

The has been staying at the hotel for close to a week now as preparations for the continental games hit the homestretch.

Reports indicate the hotel’s management had earlier barred some athletes from accessing the facility, only to let them in at the intervention of Team Kenya officials.

It is understood the athletes were ordered to check out of the hotel with their luggage moments after streaming in from their evening training sessions.

“The hotel management said they would only allow us in if monies owed to the hotel were settled,” Daily Nation quoted one of the athletes.

It is said intervention by Team Kenya boss Charles Nyaberi later saved the situation as the athletes were allowed in to spend the night.

However, Julius Yego, who is the Athletics skipper observed the team often face encounter such problems, alluding to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil where some athletes had to fly out late when their tickets went missing.

“This team was selected over a month ago and I don’t know why the issue of accommodation is cropping up now,” he said.
