Panic has gripped the family of a primary school teacher who went missing after allegedly travelling from Homa Bay County to mark this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in Nairobi more than two weeks ago.
Mr. Moses Odumbe is a teacher at Kogana Primary School in Rachuonyo North Sub-County in Homa Bay County.
According to his wife, Joyce Odumbe, the 49-year-old teacher left his home at Kogana Village on November 8 at 5.30 pm for St. George’s Girls Secondary School in Nairobi where he was to reportedly mark the exams.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) however says the 49-year-old teacher never participated in the exercise.
Joyce says after leaving Homa Bay, her husband went to his nephew’s home in Kikuyu, Kiambu County where he had a brief rest before apparently leaving for the examination marking center.
She reveals that prior to his departure, Mr. Odumbe had informed her that teachers’ phones would be confiscated during the time of marking examinations.
Joyce and her family began getting worried after the father of six failed to contact them even during times when they were expected to be free from marking the national exams.
The woman together with her relatives in Nairobi began a search for Mr. Odumbe and even visited the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) offices where they were reportedly told that the 49-year-old never participated in the exercise.
The family has already reported the matter at Kendu Bay and Kilimani Police stations in Homa Bay and Nairobi counties respectively.
