Three Arrested over Robbery of Sh72 Million in Nairobi

Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday arrested three suspects in connection with Thursday’s robbery of Sh72 million in Nairobi.

The three were arrested in Kiambu County hours after police recovered 13 empty cash boxes and bags that were stolen from the G4S team in Thogoto Forest, Kiambu.

Other items recovered in Thogoto Forest were a mobile phone, a SIM card with serial number 89254021104175661927 and a G4S jacket.

Detectives also recovered two vehicles believed to have been used in the robbery. The two Toyota Noah vehicles had allegedly been repainted to make it impossible for police officers to trace them.

On Friday, six G4S personnel were arraigned in court over links to the daring heist that happened in Nairobi West on Thursday morning.

The court allowed police to detain them for seven days at Lang’ata Police Station pending the conclusion of investigations into the crime.

The robbers, who were masquerading as police officers escorting a cash van belonging to G4S, turned out to be robbers and offloaded the money to a Toyota Noah.

The criminals also demanded passwords for StanChart’s Nairobi West ATM and withdrew cash in an incident that did not involve gunshots or left anyone injured.

The G4S team had collected the cash from the security company’s headquarters on Witu Road with three men who posed as police officers.

The money picked up at around 6 am was destined to several ATMs in the city belonging to different banks.
