Born in late 1957, the deceased lived quite a private life until 2002 when he announced his interest to capture Eldama Ravine parliamentary seat on KANU ticket which he lost.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, the deceased’s young brother, described him as an amiable, social and down-to-earth man who was very industrious.

Jonathan is well remembered for his participation in safari rally competitions and before his demise he was practising farming.

It still remains unclear whether or not the late had been unwell, however, Gideon said Kenyans will be updated on need basis and further arrangements of the funeral.

The family on Sunday, April 21, announced that the retired president would not be able to personally receive guests who would turn up to condole with the family.

Moi’s Press secretary and personal assistant Lee Njiru made the announcement noting the family was touched by the overwhelming messages of condolences and expressions of empathy from Kenyans and friends across the world.

“The family, with heavy hearts, wishes to inform all our friends that our patriarch Mzee Moi may not be able to personally receive those wishing to offer their condolences,”he said
