Security has been tightened along in Mathare along Juja Road ahead of the Thursday maandamano called by Azimio La Umoja coalition.
Water cannons were spotted at the road as early as 7 am.
Last week’s demonstrations in Mathare turned ugly after two illegal gangs clashed.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has declared the maandamano illegal.
“No more violent protests shall be allowed in Kenya with or without notices. Demonstrations and protests of any type which injure people, security officers, businesses and property shall be prevented at any cost,” said Kindiki.
Azimio La Umoja has however insisted that the demonstrations will go on.
“Ruto must make no mistake. We will continue marching on, growing stronger and more powerful with each vile response, and we will not give up,” he said.
