Covid-19 Death Toll Hits 5,202 as 186 More Test Positive



The Ministry of Health has confirmed 186 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the country’s caseload to 251,669.

The new cases were detected from 6,965 samples tested, raising the cumulative tests to 2,624, 609. The covid-19 positivity rate stands at 2.7 per cent.

In a press statement issued in Nairobi on 14th October Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that from the new cases 88 of them are Kenyans while three are foreigners with 50 of them being males while 41 are females. The youngest is a one-year-old child while the oldest is 91.

The national death toll rose to 5,202 after four more patients succumbed to the virus.

Meanwhile, 189 patients have recovered from the disease, 135 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 54 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 244,935.

A total of 640 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,631 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Some 35 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 18 of whom are on ventilatory support and 17 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Another 211 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 207 of them in general wards and four in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 13th October a total of 4,340,511 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 3,213,661 were the first dose while those fully vaccinated were 1,126, 850.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was 33.6 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 4.1 per cent.
