Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba announced at a press conference in Parliament Buildings, Nairobi on October 8 2026 that she is quitting the United Democratic Alliance and will not seek re-election on its ticket.
She said the decision follows extensive consultations with her constituents, community leaders and the church and that her conscience no longer permits her to associate with people who show no regard for others.
Wamuchomba blamed Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale for making remarks aimed at a particular community without facing any legal or institutional sanction, and contrasted his situation with that of Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia, who was arrested, taken to court and received a verdict from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission.
She questioned why Duale had not been summoned, asking whether he is above the law, and noted that Duale had dismissed her concerns on WhatsApp with the reply “sorry sister, there is anything you know,” and had referred to her as “a small girl from Kiambu” at a press conference.
Wamuchomba said she will announce her next political move later and will pursue her ambitions through a different political vehicle, pledging to join ordinary Kenyans in calling out leaders whose remarks she says undermine respect among communities.
The MP had previously rejoined UDA after a period away from former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s camp and had warned she would reconsider support for President William Ruto unless action was taken against officials accused of inflammatory statements.
She also said she had nominated MP Joseph Wainaina over remarks she believed could fuel ethnic tensions and criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration for not taking young people seriously after the 2024 Gen Z demonstrations.
