The Higher Education Loans Board announced that funds for five loan batches have now been processed and sent to the respective higher-education institutions, a step intended to reduce the financial strain on students awaiting support.
The batches identified are Helb-007139, Helb-007145, Helb-007147, Helb-007146 and Helb-007132, and the board issued the statement, “Good news students! Batches Helb-007139, 007145, 007147, 007146 and 007132 have been processed and disbursed to institutions.”
Beneficiaries were instructed to log onto their Helb student portals or contact their colleges to confirm the status of the disbursements, which are earmarked specifically for tuition fees and will be paid directly to the institutions.
The communication did not disclose the total monetary value of the five batches nor the exact number of students covered; applicants whose batch numbers were not listed have been told to await further updates.
Helb highlighted that its digital platform now enables students to apply for loans, track applications and obtain information online, urging users to check the portal regularly for any new developments.
In response to ongoing concerns about delayed payments, the board told a worried student, “We are in the process of disbursing the funds and shall communicate once the process is done.”
The Ministry of Education has called on universities to admit students while the government intensifies fund distribution, noting that the National Treasury allocated KSh58 billion for student loans in the 2026-2027 fiscal year, an increase from the previous KSh41 billion allocation.
