ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga said on Tuesday evening that Senator Oburu Oginga was recovering steadily and was in high spirits after his recent medical visit.
Wanga added that she had been with the Siaya Senator that evening and urged prayers for his full recovery.
Earlier, ODM Director of Communication Philip Etale told media that Oburu had gone to Nairobi Hospital for a routine check-up, not an emergency, and that his age made the visit normal.
Etale also said the senator would scale back his political engagements for a few weeks before resuming full duties and warned the public to verify information before sharing unconfirmed reports.
The statements followed rumours on social media on Tuesday that suggested Oburu had died, prompting concern among supporters and leading to Wanga’s clarification.
Oburu Oginga, elder brother of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, previously served as MP for Alego/Usonga and remains a senior figure in the Orange Democratic Movement.
Etale noted that October had been designated by the party and the Odinga family to commemorate Raila Odinga’s legacy, describing the month as a period of remembrance rather than celebration.
