Teachers Service Commission Honours Roman Jembe as Top Co-Curricular Teacher

The Teachers Service Commission awarded Roman Jembe Mrima, a teacher at Mitangani Primary School in Jaribuni Ward, Kauma Sub-County, Kilifi County, the Position 1 honour in the Co-Curricular and Talent Development Award during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebrations at sub-County level.

The accolade recognises Jembe’s commitment to spotting and developing learners’ abilities beyond academic lessons, especially through handball and other co-curricular activities.

Kenya Handball Federation Technical Director Charles Omondi said “Roman Jembe has played an important role in identifying and nurturing young handball talent at the grassroots level,” adding that several of his pupils are now progressing to represent Kenya at the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.

Beach Handball Commission Chairperson Caroline Nyadiero praised Jembe, stating “Roman is a teacher who understands that talent development starts with opportunity,” and noted his shortlisting for consideration as a Technical Official.

Jembe, who is among those shortlisted for a Technical Official role, said “I don’t just teach lessons, I nurture dreams,” emphasizing the need for opportunity in remote villages.

The recognition arrives as Kenya prepares its emerging handball talent for the Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, with the Kenya Handball Federation and Kenya Beach Handball family joining the education sector in congratulating Jembe on his achievement.
