Gov’t plans to scrap procurement appeal fees

Public Procurement Administrative Review Board plans to scrap procurement appeal fees to encourage more public procurement reviews and appeals.

The Board’s chairperson Faith Waigwa says the 250,000 shillings charged on the appeals has minimized the scrutiny on awarded tenders fueling corruption.

Most public tenders are marred with claims of corruptions.

However, the malpractices are rarely challenged in what the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board attributes to the high appeal fees charged for those who want to review or appeal awarded tenders.

The board plans to lower or scrap the appeal fees to encourage audit of the public tendering processes.

The state was encouraged to create an efficient electronic procurement system and integrate it in all government data, to make public procurement more efficient and transparent.

East Africa community member countries were also encouraged to adopt e-procurement system to further lower the cost of doing business in the region and increase trade.

Public entities were urged to prioritize women, youth and those living with disabilities in the tendering process.
