The 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nation came to its culmination on Friday, July 19, as Algeria stunned Senegal 1-0 to lift the tournament at the Cairo International Stadium.
Baghdad Bounedjah's goal off a deflection in the opening minutes of the clash was the difference as the Desert Foxes ended their 29-year wait for continental glory.
However, despite emerging hero of the night, Bounedjah's teammate Ismael Bennacer piped him to the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.
Bennacer ignited the tournament with his brilliant passes and impeccable attacking style of play that saw Algeria end the tournament unbeaten.
The only blemish for the north Africa football powerhouse came in their 1-1 draw against Ivory Coast in the quarters that they eventually won.
However, despite Bennacer's high-flying campaign, the midfielder had no single goal but claimed the competition's most assists alongside Ivory Coast's Franck Kessie.
Meanwhile, Algeria's custodian Rais M'Bolhi was the other footballer who was feted with individual awards after being crowned best shot-stopper of the competition and Man of the Match award for the final.
Rais conceded only once through the tournament, in his country's 1-1 draw against Ivory Coast.
