Condemned six storey building in Kayole demolished

The six storey controversial Kayole building has been brought down.

The building was demolished after an expiry of a two week notice to the owner to bring it down.

It is said to have been erected without following set regulations and locals had complaint that it was posing a danger in the area.

The six storey building erected along Kayole Spine Road was brought down Saturday after expiry of a 14 day notice issued on the 9th of November by a multi-agency team to Caroline Wanjiru, the proprietor to bring it down.

The proprietor had also been ordered to submit its structural integral report within seven days, an order that Wanjiru defied.

The issue came into the limelight after an uproar and complaints by Kenyans on social media questioning how the building was approved and whether the proprietors were concerned of its safety.

Locals lauding the action taken by the government saying it averted a disaster that was waiting to happen.

Caroline Wanjiru the proprietor was arrested on Friday and will be arraigned in court next week for putting up a building without approvals.
